Artkit #2: Restore, Renew, Repeat

A free, participatory project for Black and Brown people to join in remotely,
led by Black Fly Zine Collective

[Runs from March to May 2021]

How do we open up our bodies and our environments to step into feelings of possibility? Can visualising our bodies as sensual speedboats sustain healthy intimacy?

Through a variety of activities, we will nurture, restore and honour our bodies by exploring what makes us feel connected and present. Collaboration, sensuality, touch, imagination, health and pleasure will be at the heart of this project.

Together, we will explore notions of time and the human experience – how can we reclaim a sense of control over the pace of our lives? How do we connect deeply with ourselves, each other, our histories and the outside? Afrofuturist explorations will steer our hands-on investigation, all with remote guidance from the Black Fly Zine collective.

Weekly activities, materials and notes will be posted to your home over the course of the project, which runs from late March to end of May. Throughout the project, you’ll be able to discuss, share and exchange reflections with the group over regular Zoom calls and a private group chat.

There’s no need to have any prior experience of art or any of the activities described - you just need to be curious to learn, experiment and make new connections.

About Black Fly Zine

Black Fly Zine are a print publication and artist collective providing collaborative platforms for Black and Brown people to creatively explore their sexual health and wellbeing. We seek to support, educate, stimulate and aid informed self agency and healing for communities left on the margins or completely ignored.
