Artkit: Tactile Belonging

A free, participatory project for people of colour to join in remotely.

[This project is now finished]

We invite you to investigate intimate connections to domestic nature such as plants in your home and nature in nearby parks and wilderness areas, in this free, creative project for all ages.

You will find out about Black, Brown and Indigenous teachings in soil health, explore what it means to be present in your body, and unpick the language we use to describe our relationship to nature, as people of colour - all with remote guidance from artist Davinia-Ann Robinson, and the ability to connect online with other participants along the way.

Bi-monthly activities, materials and notes from Davinia will be posted to your home over the course of the project, which runs from November until early February (3 months). At the end of the project there will be an opportunity to come together in person, to meet everyone (including the artist), and share your reflections and more.

There’s no need to have any prior experience of art or any of the activities described - you just need to be curious to learn, experiment and make new connections.

About the artist
Davinia-Ann Robinson’s practice explores the politics of colonial emotions and how these are impressed onto Bodies of Colour who reside within colonial spaces. She is interested in the implications of these emotions and the sensations they create in-between the inner and outer layers of one’s skin. Her practice investigates experiences of living within the societal peripheries that these emotions enable as they disable bodies of colour feeling connected to their bodies and corporal histories through distorting readings and connections to one’s physical and metaphorical body, connections between individual bodies, and connections to connections to one’s environment.
